Savvy Blogging Tips

If you remember well, you know that last week I started my How to Blog series. I had quite a time coming up with a name – but you all were great with giving me many suggestions. Now I’m just finalizing the decision before releasing Part 2 in the series;)

One of the motivators to start this series came from my interest in the great Savvy Blogging dinner held at Blissdom. It was undoubtedly one of my favorite events at Blissdom, and easily made my top three list of best things that happened at Blissdom. I wanted to share with you all a few of the actual things I learned at Savvy Blogging that I’ll be working to implement here at Saving Money Plan and that I’ll be working to encourage other bloggers to implement as well.

Although there were many tips shared at the dinner, here’s a brief recap of what I learned that I will most immediately implement.

First off, I sat at a wonderful table with Stretching a Buck, where I got the chance to pick the brain of an amazing blogger with lots of advice for how to make a great blog – especially a great blog in the saving money space. Thankfully, much of our discussion centered around the business side of blogging – and how to make the leap from blogging as a hobby to blogging as a business. Here are five great things I learned at Savvy Blogging that I’ll be working on here at Saving Money Plan and that you should start working on as well if you are a blogger:

  1. Quality Posting: The key to great blogging is great content, and the one tip I learned from Savvy Blogging and the Blissdom conference in general was something I already knew – but something I needed a kick in the butt to remember! To keep up the high quality posts on this blog I need to be more personal!
  2. Using Social Networking to build my community: Although I do know a lot about social networking from my day job, in reality I need to always be working harder to learn more and be better. This is the best way to create great engagement for any blog – and I’m excited to jump up the social networking for Saving Money Plan.
  3. Scheduling my blogging better and managing time: Time management is always a challenge, and 2010 will see my working hard to balance my blog with my life.
  4. Making great relationships with other bloggers to help grow blogs together: Relationships are the key to success in many areas of life, and business and blogging are no exceptions! Only by making strong friendships can we all grow together. I’ll be remembering this as I move forward to grow Saving Money Plan. After all, the internet is big enough for everyone;)
  5. Be Myself! Success in any blog will only come with developing your own style and perfecting your own voice over time. Thankfully, “perfecting your own voice” really just means getting better at saying what you want to say! This will be a major goal for me in 2010.

Thanks again Savvy Blogging for the great chance to learn from stellar bloggers!

I will be eagerly awaiting the continuing series, as I am contemplating beginning a blog myself. Mainly coupon related, but fairly locally geared. As I just don’t see any bloggers who do Wisconsin Pick’n Save and reading the Minnesota Pick’n Save deals is just depressing! Their’s is similar to ours, but better. I also want a bent on donating, as I want that to be a focus too. And yes, some other frugal/budget posts, etc.
