As in…not…one…day…later…

Keeping track of where your hard-earned money goes is, hands-down, the smartest way to change your financial life. I have often extolled the virtues of the Money Book, the way that I recommend keeping track on paper of everything that comes in and everything that goes out of your home. However, I want to be clear that paper tracking via a money book is not the only way you should be tracking — and for some, it may not even be the best way. I often get comments from readers asking how I could possibly be tracking so much of my expenses on paper, given how much time I spend online! Well, the answer is I do both. I use Mint.com, and I use my money book.

What is Mint.com and why does it rock?

Mint.com is a way to track your money automatically through a quick, easy-to-use online system. Once you set it up to connect with your various bank, debit card, and credit card information, it will automatically download your recent activity each day.

What do you get?

Cool graphs, great metrics, payment reminders, budgeting guidelines, and more. If I didn’t love my day job, I would be beating down the doors of Mint.com to work for them. Oh, and of course: Mint.com is totally FREE.

Try it today.

If you do use it — do you love it already?

Hi Lori — I know people are often worried about that with sites on the Internet. I think the best advice I can give is to check out mint.com with the better business bureau to see how well-reputed it is…;)

  3. Ada says:

As a software developer the security of this site concerns me. I’ve closely monitored this site since its early beginnings, however, I’m still not convinced to sign up due to the low data encryption they use.
